American Muslim organizations condemn
brutal murder of American in Iraq

AMP Report

American Muslim organizations have condemned brutal murder of an American in Iraq. The organizations said that that the attempts of the murderers to invoke the name of God while committing their crime is repugnant to people of all faiths.

A video posted on an Internet web site shows the beheading of Nicholas Berg working as a contractor in Iraq whose body was found on a highway overpass in Baghdad on May 8. The group that carried out the killing said it was in retaliation for the ongoing Iraq prison abuse scandal.

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) expressed profound outrage at the brutal murder of Nicholas Berg. The ADC President Mary Rose Oakar said, "There is no possible rationalization for such appalling brutality. The criminals responsible must be brought to justice." Former congresswoman Oakar added, "to showcase this horror on the internet is simply beyond comprehension, and will shock people the world over." The ADC added that the attempts of the murderers to invoke the name of God while committing their crime is repugnant to people of all faiths and creeds, and represents a grotesque distortion of religious belief.

The American Muslim Voice (AMV) condemned the brutal murder of Nicholas Berg working as a contractor in Iraq by a group claims links to Al-Qaeda. An AMV statement said: “We denounce this cold-blooded murder in the strongest possible terms and repudiate all those who commit such acts of mindless violence in the name of Islam.”

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) also condemned the murder of Nicholas Berg. In a statement, CAIR said: "We condemn this cold-blooded murder and repudiate all those who commit such acts of mindless violence in the name of religion. We call on people of all faiths and cultures to work together for peace and reconciliation, not war and destruction."

The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) also condemned the beheading Nicholas Berg. An MPAC statement said that it believes this beheading was a barbaric response that is against humanity and against Islam. “We condemn this act in the strongest possible terms and send condolences to the Philadelphia-based family of the victim.”
